Background of the Study :
Cultural exchange has long been a driver of language change, and in Nigeria, interactions between traditional and digital narratives are reshaping morphosyntactic structures. Traditional narratives, passed down orally and preserved in local literature, exhibit rich morphosyntactic patterns deeply rooted in cultural heritage. In contrast, digital narratives—such as online blogs, social media posts, and vlogs—reflect global linguistic influences and innovative language use (Uche, 2023). This study conducts a comparative analysis of traditional and digital narratives to assess how cultural exchange influences morphosyntax in Nigeria. By examining differences in word formation, clause structure, and sentence organization, the research aims to identify the extent to which digital media alters traditional linguistic practices. The study explores how these morphosyntactic shifts contribute to cultural identity and influence language standardization efforts. It also discusses the implications for language preservation and the evolution of Nigerian linguistic expression in an increasingly globalized digital era (Olatunde, 2024).

Statement of the Problem :
Although cultural exchange significantly impacts language, there is limited comparative research on its effect on Nigerian morphosyntax, particularly between traditional and digital narratives. Existing studies often analyze these narratives in isolation, failing to explore how digital influences alter traditional linguistic structures. This gap limits our understanding of the evolution of Nigerian language and may hinder efforts to preserve indigenous morphosyntactic features. Without a systematic comparison, critical insights into the interplay between tradition and modernity in language use remain underexplored, affecting cultural preservation and language policy formulation (Uche, 2023).

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To compare morphosyntactic structures in traditional and digital narratives.

  2. To assess the impact of cultural exchange on language evolution.

  3. To provide recommendations for language preservation.

Research Questions:

  1. What morphosyntactic differences exist between traditional and digital narratives?

  2. How does cultural exchange influence these differences?

  3. What are the implications for language preservation?

Significance of the Study :
This study contributes to our understanding of language evolution in Nigeria by analyzing the impact of cultural exchange on morphosyntax. Its findings will inform cultural and language preservation initiatives and guide language policy development (Uche, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
The study is limited to a comparative analysis of traditional and digital narratives in Nigeria and does not extend to other forms of cultural exchange.

Definitions of Terms:

  1. Morphosyntax: The interaction of morphological and syntactic structures.

  2. Cultural Exchange: The sharing of cultural elements between communities.

  3. Narratives: Stories or accounts used to convey cultural knowledge.
